Sport climbing: European Championship bronze for Michael Piccolruaz

The European Championships were also held as part of the last World Cup bouldering competition in 2017. Michael Piccolruaz laid the foundation for his success in the combination ranking at the end of June at the European Lead and Speed Championships in Campitello di Fassa with his excellent 12th place in the lead competition and 21st position in the speed competition. At the Boulder European Cup in Munich, Michael Piccoruaz came 8th.

" I'm very happy that I managed to get a podium finish. This gives me the impetus to train in all three disciplines with the goal of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. My focus will remain bouldering said a visibly satisfied Michael Piccolruaz.

The second South Tyrolean at the start was Filip Schenk (AVS Brixen). He was 53rd. The big winner in Munich was the German Jan Hojer. He won gold three times: as winner of the World Cup, the European Championships and the combined competition.

Janja Garnbret from Slovenia was unbeatable in the women's race. She was on the podium a total of four times: as winner of the World Cup stage, as winner of the combined classification and second in the European Cup and in the overall bouldering classification in 2017. Stasa Gejo from Serbia, who was in top form in Munich, surprisingly won the European title in a super final. Andrea Ebner (AVS Brixen) was unable to repeat her success in the combined ranking at the 2016 World Championships in Paris. She came 17th overall.
