Curtain up for the Junior European Bouldering Championships in Brixen

The EYCH European Bouldering Championships are the European Junior Championships. Bouldering takes place in the categories Juniors (U20), Youth A (U18) and Youth B (U16). The Alpine Association of South Tyrol (AVS) is responsible for the organization. “So far everything is going as planned. “I’m confident that we’ll get everything going well from tomorrow’s opening ceremony,” says OK boss Alexandra Ladurner, looking forward to the climbing spectacle.

Johannes Egger from Olanger is also competing in Brixen.

Over 300 athletes will compete in the “Vertikale” climbing hall in Brixen. There are also two South Tyrolean climbers among them. Johannes Egger from Olang will fight for a medal in the U20. The younger one David Piccolruaz from St. Christina in Val Gardena will try his luck in the U18 competitions. Ladurner, who was a top climber herself (she became Junior World Lead Champion in 2009), gives the two South Tyroleans outsider chances of a podium place. Semi-finals are realistic for both, for a medal place you need the necessary bit of luck and the support of the fans, said Ladurner. The exceptional climber Filip Schenk from Val Gardena would also have competed in the U20 and would have had a good chance of winning gold, but unfortunately the 19-year-old will be missing in Brixen due to a finger injury sustained at the Junior World Championships in Arco.

Nevertheless, people in Brixen are really looking forward to the upcoming European Championships, says the 27-year-old from Ladur.
