Kirchler threw very consistently (60.09m, 62.34m, 59.94m, invalid, 61.50m and 61.17m) and deservedly won his ninth title at the “Assoluti” (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015 and 2016). He has also won the Italian Winter Championships twice (2007 and 2014). The 37-year-old from the Carabinieri sports group holds the Italian season's record of 64.97 m. In Rieti he would have liked to break the 65 m mark in order to qualify for the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Now he has to achieve this standard at the European Championships in Amsterdam in two weeks.

The 24-year-old from Vittorio Veneto, who competes for the Bolzano club Athletic Club 96, was only beaten by Francesco Fortunato in the 10 km walk. The 40-year-old from Padua improved his own regional record by almost two meters with 64,98 m. However, it was enough for Roberta Albertoni from Bolzano, who came third with the 4x100 m relay from Atletica Brescia in 46.49 seconds.

Manfred Menz also achieved this placement in the pole vault with 4.60 m (in the qualification he jumped 4.90 m) and Valentina Cavalleri from Pusteria in the 400 m hurdles. In 59.63 seconds she missed making it to the final of the top eight by just three hundredths. The Gadertal decathlete Alex Verginer came tenth with a new personal best of 6.392 points.

Lukas Rifesser disappointed Lukas Rifesser completely miscalculated in Rieti. In the first very slow 800 m heat he finished third in 1.54,23:1.53,85 minutes behind Gabriele Bizzotto (1.54,07:XNUMX) and Francesco Conti (XNUMX:XNUMX).
