U18 elite in Brixen

In 2020 the Brixia meeting had to be canceled due to corona; last year only a replacement meeting took place in the fall. This year, the most important South Tyrolean youth meeting can take place again on the usual scale. The starting field includes 19 teams, the majority of which come from different regions of Italy. Some teams from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Ticino and Slovenia are also registered for the Brixia. In total, more than 750 young athletes, coaches and officials will move into their quarters in the Isarco Valley during the competition day. The event is one of the most important U18 events in Central Europe and is also a benchmark for the Italian Championships in Milan in mid-June. The South Tyrolean hopefuls Some South Tyrolean athletics talents also have a chance of podium finishes. Last year, 1500 meter ace Euan De Nigro won gold, and six other local athletes also reached the podium. Of these seven South Tyroleans, only Alessia Goffi is at the start this year. The woman from Val Gardena wants to fight for a top position again this year. Goffi is registered in the javelin throw with the sixth best distance (45.01 meters), and a podium finish is certainly possible. Agata D'Angelo also has good cards. The flagship of SG Eisacktal competes in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.53 minutes. Only five athletes are on the entry list ahead of D'Angelo. If previous achievements are used as a marker, no South Tyrolean boy has a realistic chance of winning a medal. 400 meter hurdler Daniele Tomasi from CSS Leonardo da Vinci has the best chance of a good placing. On Sunday, May 29th, the international comparison match of the youth regional selections “Brixia Meeting” will be held in Brixen for the 39th time. The best national young athletes as well as the greatest South Tyrolean talents will be there.
