Ethiopia dominates New Year's Eve run BoClassic

In the women's elite race and also in the men's elite race, the existing course record was chased, but in the end the winning times were just above it.

The women had to run four laps (5km) through the old town, Netsanet Gudeta (ETH) and Janet Kisa (KEN) set the pace from the start, the duo completed the first lap in 3,46 minutes and was therefore below the running time of the Course record from last year by Agnes Tirop (KEN). Gudeta went into the third lap with a three-second lead over Kisa, who didn't give up her lead until the finish. However, the 2015 winner stayed just above the course record of 15.46 minutes in 15.30 minutes. As in 2015, Janet Kisa came second (+3 seconds), ahead of Volha Mazuronak from Belarus (+22 seconds). The best Italian was Margherita Magnani in fifth (+51 seconds).

In the men's elite race (8 laps/10km), New Zealander Zane Robertson set the pace at the start, only needing 3.25 minutes for the first lap. But on the third lap he was overtaken by Jairus Birech (KEN). Halfway through the race, Birech was leading a group of three with Robertson and Tola Tamirat (ETH). The New Zealander could no longer keep up with the leading group, and in the end Tamirat won in the second fastest time ever of 28.12 minutes, ahead of Birech (+12 seconds). Young Oscar Chelimo came third, the 17-year-old from Uganda crossed the finish line 38 seconds behind.

Markus Ploner, the man of records The best “Azzurro” in eighth place was Yemaneberhan Crippa (+1.11 minutes) from Trento, the only South Tyrolean in the elite race, Markus Ploner (ASV Vipiteno), came twentieth in a good 31.41 minutes. At the age of 36, Ploner, who now lives in Bolzano, was the oldest in the elite race; for the Vipiteno native it was the 16th. New Year’s Eve run – that’s also a new record!

In the handbike, veteran Roland Ruepp won (14.22 minutes), ahead of Christoph Depaoli (+26 seconds), with Robert Kaufmann third (+30 seconds).

The men's Ladurner fun run (3 laps) was won by Giovanni Filippi (ATL. Bergamo) in 15.41 minutes, ahead of Alois Knabl (+6 seconds/SK tailwind) and Daniel Pattis (+10 seconds/ASV Südtirol Team Club). . The women's race was won by Giulia Morelli (Atletica Livorno) in a time of 17.56 minutes ahead of Vera Mair (+46 seconds/ASV Vipiteno) and Nora Havlinova (+1.33 minutes/AUT).

The BoClassic New Year's Eve run took place in Bolzano's old town on Monday afternoon in almost spring-like temperatures of +15 degrees. The only South Tyrolean at the start was veteran Markus Ploner.
