Alex Verginer measures himself against the international competition

While the Val Badia native came 18th, Demetz from Val Gardena had to give up on the first day of the competition due to injury.

The 23-year-old Alex Verginer of Atletica Gherdeina was the only Italian to finish the competition in Florence. Coach Walter Kostner's protégé scored 6690 points in the decathlon, but missed his personal best by 158 points. At halftime, the man from Val Badia was in 3527st place with a strong 21 points. Verginer was particularly convincing in the 100 m sprint (11.46), in the long jump and high jump (6.61 and 1.95 m) as well as over 400 m (51.82) and over 110 m. m hurdles (15.87) with great results.

However, things went less well for his teammate Alexander Demetz. The 24-year-old from Val Gardena had to give up after 11.39 seconds in the 100 m and a strong 7.24 m in the long jump. On the third jump, an old injury resurfaced.

Victory in Florence went to Martin Roe, who was able to claim the new Norwegian national record of 8228 points. The Belarusian Yury Yaremich came second (7985), third place went to the Estonian Taavi Tšernjavski with 3 points.
