Alexander Demetz bronze at the all-around Italian championships in Lana

For the men, Simone Cairoli came out on top with 7319 points, ahead of Italian champion Michele Calvi (7190 points), while Cecilia Ricali won for the women with 5250 points.

Unlike in the general class, the Italian champion titles were awarded in the U20 and U23 age groups. In the U20 decathlon, Simone Fassina from Lombardy came out on top with 7049 points, clearly ahead of Andrea Carioti from Piedmont (6448) and Valentino Arrigoni (6170). The two South Tyroleans Matteo Paternoster, 10th with 5732 points, and Fabian Waldner, 13th with 5.419 points did well. Both improved their personal records by 200 points. The 17-year-old from Bolzano set a new record in four disciplines (1500m: 4.34,46, distance: 5,96m, ball: 9,73 m and 110 hurdles: 16.41), while the Vinschger native, who is almost two years older, competed in the pole vault 2,90m and improved in the discus throw with 36,71m.

3. Demetz and 4. Verginer in the U23s

In the U23 decathlon, Alexander Demetz from Val Gardena was even in the lead after the first day of competition, but in the end he had to settle for third place. Small consolation: he also set a new record with 6426 points. Roberto Paoluzzi became Italian champion with 6798 points, just 43 points ahead of Davide Sottile from Piedmont. Demetz broke the 6000 point mark for the first time. The 20-year-old from Val Gardena improved his best performances in the 400m (50,97) and in the high jump (1,99m) and equaled them in the pole vault with 4,10m. His teammate Alex Verginer, however, came fourth, also with a new record (5740 points). The 19-year-old set four new best performances in the 100m (11,86), 1500m (4.44,26), the long jump (6,11) and the 110 hurdles (17,03).

Lisa Seppi has to give up injured

In the U20 heptathlon, Lucia Quaglieri from Modena (4911 points) was crowned the new Italian champion. Silver went to Federica Palumbo (4655), bronze to Chiara Calgarini (4587). Stefanie Messner from SSV Brixen came sixth with the new record of 4176 points. The 17-year-old improved in the 200m (28,04), 800m (2.40,10), long jump (4,84) and 100 hurdles (16,18). It's a shame that she was almost ten meters below her record in the javelin throw with 35,32m. Lisa Seppi, who was one of the top favorites, was also unlucky and had to retire injured after the hurdles (fifth time) and the high jump (1,66 m, best height) when she was fully in the title race.

In the U23 heptathlon, Flavia Nasella won with 5198 points ahead of Laura Oberto (4840) and the reigning champion Sara Jemai (4684).
