The organizing committee of the Bozen Raiffeisen Running Club can already announce the best news. It concerns the corona protection measures that applied at the last event on December 31, 2021 and were also relatively strict. “At the moment there are no restrictions from the FIDAL (Italian Athletics Federation), which is why we are preparing for an uncomplicated event like in 2019,” reports Christiane Warasin, who heads the organizing committee of the BOclassic South Tyrol. “We will also offer the catering program again, including the use of the changing rooms for the runners. We on the OK team are really looking forward to a normal edition of our New Year’s Eve run,” says Warasin. Otherwise, the organizers of the tour through the Christmas-decorated center of the South Tyrolean capital rely on tried and tested methods. Five different competitions are taking place as part of the top-class running event. It traditionally starts at lunchtime with the Just-For-Fun run, and an hour later the next highlight starts at 13 p.m. with the BOclassic Ladurner fun run. On the five kilometer long route, hundreds of amateur athletes complete four laps of 1250 meters through the old town. Children, handbikers and then the big stars After the Ladurner fun run, the focus will be on children and young people from 13.50 p.m. when they compete in the BOclassic Raiffeisen Youth Cup on one of the many different distances. Immediately afterwards, the handbikers venture onto the route. The biggest highlight is traditionally the elite races, which usually have top-class participants and start at 15 p.m. with the women (four laps/five kilometers). The men follow at 15.30:10 p.m. and have to complete eight laps, i.e. XNUMX kilometers. The professional races, which are attended by thousands of enthusiastic athletics fans on site and create a stadium atmosphere at Waltherplatz, will once again be broadcast live to households this year by Rai Südtirol and the Italian state television RAI Sport. A showcase of the top international stars of the athletics scene From world champions to Olympic champions in the middle distances of the athletics scene, many big stars have come to Bolzano's Waltherplatz on December 31st in recent years and decades - and it will be the same this year, promises Warasin: "We can't name any names at the moment . But we can guarantee that one or two stars will take part in the New Year's Eve run again.” The athletics scene will know on the afternoon of December 31st who will ultimately enter the annals of the BOclassic South Tyrol.
