The U20 and U23 titles will be awarded in Ancona this weekend

A total of 52 Italian champions will be crowned at the weekend. Last year, South Tyrol's athletes won a medal in Ancona: U20 sprinter Ira Harrasser from Bruneck won bronze in the 200 m. For the Puster native it was the first medal at an Italian championship. However, Harrasser is not taking part this year.

Only Katharina Oberhammer, who won silver in the 4x100 m relay two years ago, starts for SSV Bruneck. The U23 middle distance runner registered the sixth fastest time over 800 m in 2:11.45 minutes. Pole vault ace Nathalie Kofler also wants to be at the forefront. The Lanan woman, who had to be content with fourth place in Ancona last year, is competing in her second season with the U20s this year and has a great chance of winning a medal with 3.86 m. Her toughest opponents are Monica Aldrighetti (4.00), Giulia Valletti Borgnini (3.90) and Laura Pirovano (3.80).

Kofler's teammate from SV Lana, Linda Maria Pircher, could also cause a surprise among the women. The 18-year-old from Burgstall has already impressed with top placings several times in this young season (on Saturday she came third at the U20 all-around Italian championships), and now she is aiming for another medal in the long jump and triple jump. Pircher is registered with the fifth best distance in both disciplines. In the U23 competition, however, triple jumper Angela Kier wants to attract attention. The flagship of the SG Eisacktal is registered with the fourth best distance at 12.14 m.

The newly crowned U20 Italian champion Sara Buglisi is also hoping for a podium finish in the 3 km walk. The Meran native, who will be celebrating her 19th birthday next Tuesday, is one of the closest favorites with Camilla Gatti and Simona Bertini. Last year Buglisi took 4th place.

It will be a little more difficult for the South Tyrolean men to win a medal. Only the Bolzano pole vaulter Nicolò Fusaro can end up in the top field in Ancona. He is registered in the U23 competition with the third best height of 5.01 m. In addition to the South Tyrolean, exceptional talent Max Mandusic (5.50), Andrea Marin (5.15), Pierre Ahoula and Leonardo Orlandi (both 5.00) will also be at the front.

The U20 and U23 titles will be awarded in Ancona this weekend

1256 athletes from 214 different clubs, including 13 South Tyroleans, will take part in the 8th edition of the Italian Indoor Athletics Championships in the U9 and U45 age groups on Saturday, February 20th and Sunday, 23th at the Palaindoor in Ancona.
