Athletic Club Bozen '96 regional champion for the 10th time

The Athletic Club '96 has been the most successful South Tyrolean team for years and is also the top team in Italy. In Trento, President Bruno Telchini's club won its tenth regional championship title in the past eleven years, 504 points ahead of long-term rival Quercia Rovereto. With 15.739 points, AC '96 managed to qualify for the Argento final (places 13 - 24) of the Italian Championship straight away, as in the previous year. “With over 15.000 points, we now even have the chance to qualify for the Final Oro for the second time,” said Telchini, pleased about his team’s successful performance, which won eleven of 20 competitions. As expected, European Championship starter Paolo Dal Molin won the hurdles sprint. The Bolzano long jumper Pierluigi Putzu (7.17 m), pole vaulter Manfred Menz, walker Marco de Salvador and shot putter Simone Capisani also celebrated victories.

The regulations have been changed compared to the previous year. The use of athletes in the U23, U20 and U18 age groups is no longer mandatory, and only 18 results count instead of the previous 26. The individual athletes now have until July 15th at the various national and international competitions to improve their club's points account through good individual performances. Only then will it be clear whether the Athletic Club '96 will make it to the Oro final of the Italian championship.

In Trento there were some other interesting results from a South Tyrolean perspective on the occasion of the regional championship. Peter Lanziner won the 3000 m obstacle. Valentina Cavalleri improved to third place on the Italian U400 annual best list in the 1 m H in 03:57:18. And junior Dominik Lahner took advantage of the optimal wind to set a new record in the 100 m sprint. In 10.92, the SSV Bruneck sprinter moved to fifth place on the Italian U20 annual best list.
