European Mountain Running Championships: South Tyrol wins big

The title fights on Gran Canaria began with dream results for the South Tyrolean athletes. Hannes Perkmann from Sarn and Emily Vucemillo from Meran each won gold in the team competition. In the men's competition over 9 km, “Azzurro” Cesare Maestri won in 44.48 minutes, Perkmann shone in sixth place with a strong time of 46.08. Alex Baldaccini finished tenth as the third best Italian. Italy won the team title with 17 points, ahead of Switzerland (22) and Spain (35,5). In the junior women's race, Emily Vucemillo took home the next gold medal. The Merano woman took fourth place in the uphill race, behind Briton Charlotte Rawstron, compatriot Axelle Vicari and winner Ida Waldal from Norway. The “Azzurre” prevailed with 11 points, ahead of Great Britain (17) and Spain (39). On Saturday Julia Kessler took part in the trail race. The Meran resident timed the 47,4 km in 4:41.39 hours, which was enough for 11th place in the end. Victory went to Blandine L'Hirondel from France in 4:11.22 hours, ahead of host Nuria Gil (4:18.16) and Mathilde Sagnes (4:22.42), also from France. Anna Hofer from Rabland took part in the final up-and-down U20 women's race. The 17-year-old athlete from SC Meran came in sixth place in 26.23 minutes, with Ida Waldal taking the win again in 24.37 minutes. In the team ranking, Hofer took third place with Axelle Vicari and Luna Giovanetti with 24 points, behind Great Britain (21) and France (17). European Mountain Running Championships: South Tyrol wins big

The four South Tyrolean mountain running specialists Hannes Perkmann, Emily Vucemillo, Julia Kessler and Anna Hofer were in action at the European Mountain Running Championships in La Palma from Friday to Sunday. The result was impressive with three team medals.
