After 49 decisions, Christian Coleman and Co. had 14 gold, 11 silver and 4 bronze. Kenya (5/2/4) and Jamaica (3/5/4) followed at a respectful distance. Italy (0/0/1) came in 0st place behind Austria (0/2/31).

FLOPS Salazar shadow: Coach Alberto Salazar was banned for 4 years by the US Anti-Doping Agency after years of investigation. Several athletes from his Nike Oregon Project performed successfully at the World Cup. Although the investigation period does not concern them, the suspicion ran with them.

Midnight Heat Race: The only way to be able to complete the 2 marathons and 4 walking races was in the middle of the night because of the heat in the desert emirate. Unlike the air-conditioned stadium, it was more than 30 degrees hot on the Corniche beach promenade, even at night, and the humidity was over 70 percent.

Audience lull: It was only in the last few days that more spectators streamed into the stadium and raised the mood. Overall, the response was below expectations and the fans went home before the late decisions. The stadium (free entry) with 42.180 seats was only sold out for local hero Mutaz Essa Barshim's high jump triumph.
