BOclassic 2015: Only the finish area is moving

The BOclassic 2015 is taking place. This had recently become apparent and was officially confirmed on Monday. “We never said that we didn’t want to run the run,” OC boss Gerhard Warasin made clear. It was the organizers themselves who pointed out the problematic space conditions due to the Christmas market a few weeks ago and threatened to cancel the event in a press release. The negotiations with the then mayor Luigi Spagnolli threatened to fail. Now, however, the city administration's suggestion seems to have been taken into account: the running route across the city remains unchanged, but the finish area is moved to the end of Bahnhofstrasse. This means that the BOclassic run can be carried out regularly and the Christindlmart can remain open until January 6th at Waltherplatz.

"I don't even want to list all the sessions and meetings, let alone the time sacrificed. What's important is that we found a solution that satisfies both sides to some extent. I'm glad that we can hold the event in full." But there's a little catch in the whole thing, as Warasin reveals: "We can't start work on the finish area until December 30th from 19 p.m. We'll be under real time pressure. We'll have the experience of this year's event as early as January Prepare edition."

Everyone is happy

Although there were very tough negotiations and debates until the end, in the end all parties were satisfied with the solution. Christof Brandt, the President of the Bozen Running Club, also underlines this: "The BOclassic simply belongs to Bozen. We have had a lot of support in the last few weeks. This year we will also be building a large grandstand at the finish line. In addition, the athletes will run directly at the Christmas market over. That could make great, characteristic images." Stefan Mayr from the spa administration agrees: "All's well that ends well." Ulrike Pichler from the City of Bolzano's Assets and Economy Department is also relieved: "Both the Christmas market and the BOclassic run are extremely important for our city. I am satisfied with this solution."

First and foremost, efforts are being made to attract well-known athletes to South Tyrol this year. "We will try to engage numerous world-class runners again and thus continue the tradition of previous years. The large grandstand on Waltherplatz is the trademark of this event. That will hardly change this year, even though the position is no longer the same," said athletes -Manager Gianni Demadonna concluded.
