BOclassic South Tyrol: Gudeta is the big favorite

Last year, Netsanet Gudeta fought a thrilling duel with Kenyan Janet Kisa. It was also the duel between the BOclassic South Tyrol winner from 2015 against the one from 2014. In the end, half marathon world champion Gudeta came out on top in 15.46 minutes - one of the fastest times ever run in Bolzano at the end of the year. For the 28-year-old African, it was also the second triumph in the Talferstadt.

Now Gudeta wants to pull off the third prank on New Year's Eve. However, the Ethiopian faces strong competition from Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi. The 26-year-old Kenyan won the silver medal in the 5000m at the World Athletics Championships in Doha. Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi also has good memories of Bolzano: at the BOclassic 2017 she took second place behind Agnes Tirop (also Kenya). While Chelimo Kipkemboi achieved her personal best time in a 15.58 m road race in 5000 minutes, Tirop set a new fantastic course record in 15.30 minutes. Maybe in a week Gudeta and Chelimo Kipkemboi can push each other to a new record in an epic duel in which Alemitu Tariku (Ethiopia), the silver medalist at the U20 World Cross Country Championships, could also be involved.

The men's race is also strong. Yemaneberhan Crippa, the undisputed crowd favorite at the BOclassic Südtirol, is once again taking part. However, the Trentino native finds a very strong competitor in Telahun Haile. The Ethiopian set the world's best time over 12.52,98 meters in June in Rome in 5000:XNUMX minutes and prevailed at the Giro al Sas in Trent in October, where he lost out to world champion Muktar Edris.
