The first 6-hour race on an asphalt track in the region

On September 17th at 10.15:XNUMX a.m. the starting signal for the first ultramarathon race on an asphalt track in the Trentino-South Tyrol region will be given in the Safety Park in Pfatten. The sporting event was presented on Thursday morning in the Sportsman sports shop in Bolzano by the President of the Dribbling Association, Leonardo Filippi.

Race director Francesco Damiani, 2013 Italian 24-hour champion, explained that “a 6-hour race is a very special race because you need a lot of head when you have exhausted your strength.” Ultramarathon runner Hermann Achmüller also confirmed this. The Pusterer, a member of the 100 km national team, was the guest of honor at the press conference. He will take part in the relay race (6x1 hour). For Achmüller, who wants to run all six World Marathon Majors this year (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York), the race in Pfatten is an important test before the Berlin Marathon, which is on the program a week later.

The vice president of the South Tyrolean Athletics Association FIDAL Edmund Lanziner and the deputy governor Christian Tommasini were also present at the press conference. He would like to take part in the race with an official team from the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, as there are many amateur runners in the state government. He was particularly pleased that new events are being organized in the Safety Park that have nothing to do with motorsport and that “can involve athletes and their families.” They can then take part in the 6x1 hour relay race that takes place at the same time. Teams with three to six participants are allowed to start - women, men or mixed. “A 6-hour run is a democratic race,” emphasized Damiani, “because all athletes start and finish the run at the same time, with the aim of completing as many kilometers as possible in the allotted time.”

According to the official FIDAL surveyors, the race track in Pfatten is exactly 1.085 meters. The race was also included in the IUTA calendar as the 15th Grand Prix of 2017 and cash prizes are provided for the best athletes.
