The triple triumph of the US sprinters in the 100 meter final crowned the second day of competition at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA. Fred Kerley became world champion ahead of his compatriots Marvin Bracy and Trayvon Bromell. 100 meters, men: Gold, silver, bronze for the US sprinters. Top favorite Fred Kerley won the 100 meter final in 9,86 seconds ahead of his two compatriots Marvin Bracy and Trayvon Bromell, who each ran 9,88 seconds. Bracy got silver, Bromell bronze. “We said we would do this and we did it. USA, baby,” Kerley said over the stadium microphone. It was the third time the United States won gold, silver and bronze in the 100 meters and the first since 1991, when Carl Lewis, Leroy Burrell and Dennis Mitchell did so in Tokyo. 100 meters, women: The fastest sprinters in the heats were Britain's Dina Asher-Smith in 10,84 seconds and defending champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce from Jamaica in 10,87 seconds. Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah from Jamaica took it easy in 11,15 seconds. Long jump, men and shot put, women: China's Wang Jianin won the men's long jump title with 8,36 meters in the last attempt. The third place at the 2015 World Championships overtook the long-leading Greek Olympic champion Miltiadis Tentoglou, who jumped 8,32 meters. The actual decathlete Simon Ehammer from Switzerland stood up to the special long jumpers and won an incredible bronze with 8,16 meters. In the women's shot put, favorite Chase Ealey gave host USA the title with 20,49 meters. Olympic champion Gong Lijiao from China came ten centimeters shorter and had to be satisfied with silver.

3000 meter obstacle: The two-time European obstacle champion Gesa Krause reached the final with a lot of luck. The 29-year-old third place at the 2019 World Cup qualified with a time of 9:21,02 minutes. This meant she reached the 15th and final starting position for the medal race on Thursday night. She was only eight hundredths of a second ahead of the next-placed runner. “That was really sharp,” said Krause.

400 meter hurdles: World record holder Karsten Warholm effortlessly won his heat in 49,34 seconds and reached the semi-finals. Due to a thigh injury in the first race of the season in Rabat at the beginning of June, his performance was questionable recently. In the run-up to the title fights in the USA, the Norwegian appeared fit and without restrictions. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo he won with an incredible world record time of 45,94 seconds.
