David Thöni and Anna Pircher win in the Non Valley

All of the 180 registered runners started, and 179 of them successfully reached the finish. After first-placed Pircher, Corinna Ghirardi from the US Malonno running club (01:09:52.42) and Emma Menapace (01:10:22.26) secured second and third places. In the men's category, Gil Pintarelli from Team Crazy-Scarpa (52:26.42) and Tobias Geiser (55:10.37) from Team SV Mölten / Alpin Speed followed. Gabriele Andretti, born in 2000 from Atletica Clarina Trento, was the youngest participant to start and reached the summit in 1:18:50.91.

The mountain run started at 9.00 a.m. in Bresimo (1.036 m) and ran over a 5-kilometer route to Monte Pin (2.420 m). Thöni and Pintarelli were at the front from the start and set the rhythm of the race. In the chasing group, young Tobias Geiser impressed with his technical skills and left local heroes Manuel Cristan, Daniele Barchetti and Franco Torresani behind him. For the women, Pircher set the pace from the start. “That was my first vertical race. It was a wonderful experience in the best weather, the organization was perfect!”.

Thöni is also satisfied with the race: “It is difficult to find a comparable route that has a consistent climb with so many meters of elevation and such a short distance. Good weather conditions and top organization round off the day.”

The mountain running season in the Non Valley began with the vertical race on Monte Pin. The organizers were visibly pleased with the participation of 180 runners from South Tyrol, Trentino and Lombardy. “After the mountain run on the Laugen in October 2015, we wanted to start the running season with a vertical race on the opposite side of the Maddalene ridge. The idea seems to be appealing given the high number of participants,” says Mirko Mocatti from the OK team.

The next competition dates have already been set: on August 21st the eighth edition of the Maddalene Sky Marathon (45 km - 3.000 m) and the Maddalene Mountain Race (25 km - 1.5002 m) from Our Lady in the Forest to Rumo will take place. At the end of the season in October, the vertical run to the Laugen-Spitze takes place again.
