The Merano-Lagundo half marathon is celebrating its anniversary

The organizers have received almost 750 entries – half of them from Germany, Austria and Switzerland – in the past few weeks. These include numerous top athletes, such as last year's winner Khalid Jbari from Athletic Club 96 Alperia. The Bolzano native with Moroccan roots won in 2017 with a time of 1:09.09 hours. This year too, the 29-year-old Jbari has already won a race in the Top7 series, namely the Kalterer See Half Marathon just over a month ago. The current Top7 overall winner in the Passerstadt faces competition from his teammate Gianmarco Bazzoni. Wilfried Braunhofer, who has taken part in all 24 editions of the Half Marathon Meran Algund, will also be at the start - in the 25th edition, the 54-year-old from Vipiteno will symbolically start with the start number “25”.

Some of the best local long-distance runners are registered for the women: Romana Gafriller (SG Eisacktal), Natalie Andersag (ASC Berg), Petra Pircher (Rennerclub Vinschgau) and Edeltraud Thaler (Telmekom Team). “Experience has shown that a few top athletes join us in the last few days before the race. In any case, we are ready, from our side the half marathon could take place as early as today. There are just a few approvals still pending from the authorities, which we will receive in the next few days,” explains OC boss Martin Sanin.

There are three route lengths to choose from In addition to the half marathon distance (21,0975 kilometers), participants are also offered a fitness run with a length of 12,5 kilometers. The most prominent participant in the short distance to date is Johanna Dellemann from the South Tyrolean Running Club. “All hobby runners who don’t want to take part in competition can register for Run4Fun over 4,2 km. No medical certificate is necessary for this,” Sanin continued.

By the way, for the anniversary edition of the Half Marathon Merano – Lagundo, the organizers are returning to their roots – i.e. they are changing to the bank of the Passer again. The start and finish will be on Freiheitsstraße, i.e. in the immediate vicinity of the Kurhaus. “The marathon festival will take place along the promenade throughout the weekend, starting on Saturday, with the Amberg Duo creating a great atmosphere. All running enthusiasts are of course cordially invited to celebrate our semi-circular anniversary with us,” emphasizes Martin Sanin.
