The Kaltererseelauf is in the starting blocks

The winter break for runners has long since ended in South Tyrol too. People have been training diligently all over the country for weeks - also to be well prepared for one of the first highlights of the still young 2024 running season. On Sunday, April 14th, the 2nd Kaltererseelauf will take place in Tramin, which is the second stage of the Top7 running series 2024. The preparations for this traditional event are already well advanced.

Until 2022, a half marathon or the approximately 10 kilometer long panoramic run was held around Lake Kaltern every year. But after 15 extremely successful editions, the organizing committee around President Patrick Olivetto wanted to try something new and organized the Kaltererseelauf for the first time last year. At 14,8 kilometers long, it is significantly shorter than the half marathon - but the new route is at least as well received by participants from all parts of Europe.

After the start at 9.30 a.m. at Tramin's town hall square, the route takes the athletes north to the shore of Lake Kaltern. The endurance athletes then run clockwise around the warmest swimming lake in the Alps before returning to the starting point, where the finish is after 14,8 kilometers and around 180 meters in altitude. Top South Tyrolean athletes Michael Hofer and Julia Kuen won the first edition last year.

Gewürztraminer run and VSS sprint champion
In addition to the main race, a fun run is also offered to anyone interested. The non-competitive Gewürztraminer run, which is not timed, is 4,1 kilometers long. Anyone who wants to take part does not have to have a sports doctor's certificate. It is intended for all those who enjoy exercise and want to enjoy the picturesque landscape in the south of South Tyrol on the new circuit. As part of the Kaltererseelauf, the VSS sprint champions will also be determined at the festival site in Tramin before the award ceremonies. From 2011 p.m., all children born in 13 or younger will cover 30 meters as quickly as possible on a tartan track. Participation is free and every child receives a small gift.

“The preparations are in full swing, but are already well advanced a month before the Kaltererseelauf. The interest in our running event is unbroken. We already have more than 400 enrollees. When it gets warmer again in the next few days, registrations will continue to skyrocket. We can hardly wait to really ring in the running season with our event,” says OK President Patrick Olivetto from the organizing South Tyrolean Running Club.

Two training runs in the run-up to the Kaltererseelauf
Those interested have the opportunity to explore the running route with like-minded people and complete a longer training session. This Saturday, March 16th and a week after Easter on Saturday, April 6th, all running enthusiasts can go from 9 a.m. from the town hall square in Tramin to the racing route around Lake Kaltern.
