Around 600 participants will then set off on the 15,2 kilometer long route with an altitude of 1333 meters on Saturday morning - in compliance with a sophisticated hygiene and safety concept. “The weather was the big unknown in our planning. As of today, the forecasts are good and stable, which is why nothing stands in the way of implementation from this point of view. We appeal to all participants to strictly adhere to our hygiene and safety concept. This means that the distance must be maintained. If this cannot be adhered to, a mask must be worn. The obligation to wear a mask also applies when entering closed rooms, for example when starting numbers are handed out, or as soon as the runners enter their starting block. And of course, wash and disinfect your hands frequently,” emphasizes Hofer. Numerous top athletes are at the start From a sporting point of view, the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run 2020 is extremely strong and is in no way inferior to last year's edition, when the popular mountain run celebrated its debut in the World Cup in Sexten. Martin Anthamatten from Switzerland leads the top-class field of participants among the men. The 36-year-old is a gifted ski mountaineer (victory at the Patrouille des Glaciers), but can also boast numerous successes as a mountain runner (triumphs at the Ultraks Zermatt, winner of the Gornergrat Zermatt half marathon). However, for the first time since 2012 there could be a victory for an Italian in the South Tyrolean autumn classic. With the 2017 mountain running long-distance world champion Francesco Puppi, Luca Cagnati, Matteo Bonzi and Marco Filosi, four top Italian runners are eligible for the day's victory. The Maltese Ryan Farrugia also joins the long field of class athletes. In all likelihood, the women's duel will also be Switzerland versus Italy. Here the Swiss Simone Troxler is the top favorite. The 23-year-old won the Jungfrau Marathon last year. She also achieved an excellent eighth place at the European Mountain Running Championships in Zermatt, home in 2019. If Troxler triumphs, she would be the second Swiss woman after Victoria Kreuzer to reach the top podium of the renowned mountain run in the 3 Zinnen Dolomites holiday region. By the way, Kreuzer is also at the start this year and, alongside Azzurre Elisa Sortini, Gloria Giudici, Italian trail champion Barbara Bani and ski mountaineering ace Dimitra Theocharis, is one of the top favorite's toughest opponents. Course records not in danger Agnes Tschurtschenthaler insists that South Tyrol's top athletes take part in her home race. The 38-year-old from Sesto missed out on winning the day in 2015 when she fell while in the lead, had to let Antonella Confortola pass her and finally reached the finish in second place. As far as the course records of Petro Mamu (1:22.37 hours/Eritrea) and Sarah Tunstall (1:41.37/Great Britain) are concerned, they cannot be broken this year. The route had to be changed slightly because the start on Saturday had to take place in blocks of 50 at intervals of three minutes. In order not to close the road to traffic for longer than necessary, the village tour in Sexten was canceled. The route now leads from Haus Sexten directly towards Fischleintal.
