German athletics stars go astray in Latsch

The German athletics coach Sven Lang has been coming to Latsch with his protégés for training camps for many years, often several times a year. Lang was a shot put coach in Vinschgau for the first time in 2009. He is now responsible for all throwing disciplines in the German Athletics Association, including not only shot put but also discus, hammer and javelin throws.

A total of more than 30 people, some from the senior national teams and some from the U23 national teams, were in Laces from September 30th to last Saturday, October 8th. Not only training sessions were on the program for the athletes in the various disciplines, but the focus was primarily on team building.

“There are countless possibilities for this,” praised Lang. Among other things, the athletes competed in the summer biathlon in Val Martello. They also showed off their skills by climbing, mountain biking and curling in the Latscher IceForum. “And the weather played along too,” said the trainer happily.

This time there were, among others, discus thrower Kristin Pudenz, who won silver at the 2021 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, and the 2017 javelin throw world champion Johannes Vetter.

The training was organized by the German national team in collaboration with Viva:Latsch, the municipal structure that manages the sports facilities in Latsch.

An Olympic medalist in the discus and a javelin world champion in curling, on the climbing wall, on the mountain bike or in the summer biathlon? These have not been uncommon in Vinschgau recently.
