The ladies of the South Tyrol Team Club are making history

For five years, the ladies of the South Tyrol Team Club missed out on team success and always ended up in second or third place. Now the big coup has worked. At the weekend, the athletes were crowned team Italian champions by president and coach Edmund Lanziner. His team prevailed with 1271 points ahead of Virtus Castenedolo Brescia (1257) and Romatletica (1249). The Meran sports club, however, took 1145,5th place with 11 points.

Four individual victories and six podium places Overall, South Tyrol's athletes achieved four wins and six podium places in the individual disciplines. The best athlete in the South Tyrol Team Club was Elisabeth Moser from Sarnen, who emerged winner in both the 800 meter run and the 1500 meter run. Waltraud Egger took second place in this run. The Merano woman then won the 3000 m ahead of Rosi Pattis from Team South Tyrol.

Erika Niedermayr from the South Tyrol Team Club also took victory in the 200 meter hurdles, missing her record by just two hundredths of a second, while Waltraud Mattedi threw her javelin into the field with the second best mark. Second place was also taken by Ingeborg Zorzi from Meran in the high jump, Renate Schäfer in the shot put and the 4x100m relay team from Team Südtirol Club with Rosanna Barbi Lanziner, Renate Prast, Inge Ploner and Erika Niedermayr.

Men's team in 8th place The men's team of the South Tyrol Team Club, which was the only regional representative to travel to Abruzzo for the final of the best 24 teams in Italy, repeated its previous year's result and finished in a good eighth place. In the individual events, Hubert Indra in the high jump and Alberto Menegotto in the hammer throw narrowly missed the podium and took fourth place.
