The favorites triumph at the Brixen Dolomites Marathon

Trail Italian champion Andreas Reiterer from Hafling completed the 42,2 km long route with 2450 meters of altitude in imperial weather and high summer temperatures in 3:43.11 hours, while Severine Petersen, who comes from Munich - but now lives partly in Gossensaß - reached the finish after 4: Reached 38.32 hours. A total of over 1200 athletes were in action during the big running weekend in the cathedral city.

Andreas Reiterer celebrated a start-to-finish victory at the Brixen Dolomites Marathon. The 29-year-old from Avelengo had to give up the Lavaredo Ultra Trail a week ago due to a back injury. Reiterer appeared to be almost completely rehabilitated from this on Saturday morning, even though he said in the winner's interview at the finish on the Plose that his back was still hurting slightly.

The South Tyrolean running ace from the Asics Trail Team set his pace right from the start, had a lead of around seven minutes over his pursuers at just over half the route and even extended this lead on the last steep climb to the finish on Brixen's local mountain . Reiterer could even afford to do a small extra lap of around 2 kilometers because he got lost for a short time - despite the perfect markings.

In the end, Reiterer, who won the Brixen Dolomites Marathon for the second time after 2019, was almost a quarter of an hour ahead of Matthäus Zöggeler from Vöran, who secured second place. The 24-year-old from ASV Telmekom Team Südtirol also stayed under the magical four-hour mark in 3:57.54, which Matteo Vecchieti in third place missed by the tiniest of just two seconds. Nevertheless, the flat distance specialist was very satisfied with his podium result. Fourth place went to South Tyrolean Matthias Messner, who lives in the USA, while the American Jeff Schuler took fifth place in the final ranking. Last year's winner and local hero Helmuth Mair landed in seventh place. Start-finish victory for Severine Petersen The race was similar for the women. In the first few kilometers, Jana Steger (Falzen/SG Eisacktal) was able to keep up with Severine Petersen. But after the first checkpoint in St. Andrä, where Steger arrived 50 seconds after Petersen, the eventual winner stepped up her game. On the remaining route, Severine Petersen gained a lead of over 22 minutes and confidently won the 12th Brixen Dolomites Marathon in 4:38.32 hours.

Steger completed the marathon distance in 5:01.45 hours, skillfully defended second place and was overjoyed with this result. Third place, however, went to Manuela Beer (Team Bergmeister), who also comes from Germany but has been living in Vahrn for a good two years. The 29-year-old recorded a time of 5:11.43 hours.
