Running athletes are drawn to Meran

The 21,0975 kilometer long route in Burggrafenamt attracts over 1000 runners every year. This mark should also be reached this year, if not even exceeded. Incidentally, most of the participants took part in 2012, when 1760 athletes started in Meran.

After the half marathon in the Passerstadt was dominated by athletes from Africa for years, the event has been dominated by local runners since 2012. Last year's winners Markus Ploner and the Swiss Sabine Fischer have not yet registered for the race in the spa town. For the men, Khalid Jbari, winner of 2015 and 2017, and his teammate from Athletic Club 96 Bozen, Gianmarco Bazzoni, are among the top favorites this year. In addition, numerous other top local runners will start in Merano. For the women, however, the successor to Sabine Fischer, who won the last three editions, is being sought. Among others, the Kardauner Natalie Andersag and Edeltraud Thaler from Lana are registered.

The men's course record is still held by Kenyan Paul Kanda, who lasted just over an hour in 2002 (1:00.55), while Mrisho Zakie Mohamed from Tanzania won the women's half marathon in 2010 in 1:11.23 hours.

In addition to the main run of 21,1 km, there will also be a 12,5 km competition. In addition, amateur runners have the opportunity to take part in a 4,2 km competition. All three races start at 9.30:XNUMX a.m.
