The track and field athletes are focusing on the Italian Championships

The first record was broken even before the Italian Championships began. After the 927 athletes (453 men and 474 women) in Turin in 2006, Rovereto now has the ninth participant record with over 1000 registrations. However, 2013 athletes (864 men and 429 women) took part in the 435 national championships in Milan.

Competitions with obstacles are very popular. Most of the athletes, namely 66 (39 men and 27 women) registered for the 400m hurdles, followed by 56 (31 men and 25 women) in the 3000m obstacle and the 55 starters (27 and 28) in the 110m hurdles . A total of 44 Italian championship titles will be awarded, 22 for men and 22 for women - including those in the decathlon and heptathlon.

As part of the Italian championships, there is also a fight for the Italian team cup, which represents qualification for the national champions' cup. In 2013, the men's sports group won the Finanzwache (which later won the European Cup for the third time in a row) and the women's army sports group.

South Tyrol's track and field athletes are also at the start

Five local clubs are sending their model athletes to Rovereto, namely SSV Bruneck, ASV Sterzing, SSV Brixen, Atletica Gherdeina and Athletic Club 96 from the state capital Bolzano. Bruneck, Vipiteno and Brixen each have a representative with them: Caren Agreiter, Markus Ploner and Stefanie Messner.

The decathletes Alexander Demetz and Alex Verginer are sent into the race by the Gardena Athletics Club. Meanwhile, Bolzano has nine top athletes: Gualtiero Bertolone (100 m and 4x100m), Alessandro Bramafarina (long jump and 4x100m), Daniel Compagno (discus throw), Soufiane Elkounia (3000 m obstacle), Hubert Göller (javelin throw), Angelo Lella (400 m hurdles). ), Manfred Menz (pole vault), Alessandro Monte (4x100 m) and Andrea Trionfo (4x100 m).

Long-distance specialist Peter Lanziner, as well as relay runner Matteo Didoni and discus thrower Elisabeth Stofner will also be competing for the host US Quercia Trentingrana. There are also three South Tyroleans at the start who are competing for a military sports group. They are Lukas Riffesser (Army Sports Group/800 m), discus thrower Hannes Kirchler and the 1500 m runner Christian Obrist (both Carabinieri).
