The athletics talents travel to Caorle

While the boys don't have a say in the awarding of the top places (Maximilian Springeth and Manuel Antonucci most likely), several girls start with medal hopes. Above all, Hanna Pichler from the South Tyrol Team Club and Greta Amhof from Bruneck, who are registered with third time and fourth length in the 300 m and long jump respectively. Pichler has a season's best time of 40.64 seconds, set in Bolzano at the beginning of June. The 14-year-old Amhof from Puster achieved 5.44 m in Coventry in Great Britain this year. The all-rounders Alexa Schneider and Hannah Thaler from Bruneck could also ensure a good result. In the pentathlon, Schneider is registered in sixth place with 3.853 points, Thaler follows in 3.733th place with 8 points. The Lanan discus thrower Stephanie Schöpf (29.77 m) is also good for a surprise. Among the boys, who traditionally perform weaker than the girls in the regional rankings, there are only two entries in the top 6 of the registration lists: Springeth (9th in the high jump) and Antonucci (10th in the long jump). In return, state coach Schöpf can look forward to an almost complete team. In the title fights in Borgo Valsugana (2014), Sulmona (2015) and Cles (2016), the South Tyrolean U16 national team returned with three medals; in 2017, also in Cles, they won two medals. In 2018, the South Tyroleans won four silver medals in Rieti, followed by a gold and silver medal in 2019. In 2020 in Forlì, the Val Gardena pentathlete Alessia Goffi was crowned Italian champion, as well as two silver and one bronze medals. Last year in Parma, six-athlete Daniele Tomasi took bronze. The girls are aiming for a top 10 place in the team rankings this year. The sensational second place from 1994 is considered unrepeatable. The competitions in Caorle will take place on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October. The state selection is accompanied by the coaches Karl Schöpf, Nicole Indra, Christian Neunhäuserer and Mirco Flaim. Over 800 athletes from 21 regions will take part in the U16 Italian Championships in Caorle this weekend. This also includes South Tyrol's 35-strong youth selection from state coach Karl Schöpf.
