A few minutes after the start, OC boss Gottfried Hofer and his helpers became disillusioned. The helicopter, which was absolutely necessary to transport clothing to the finish, was unable to fly all of the participants' clothing bags to the finish at the Drei Zinnen Hut due to the thick fog. In addition, some of the clothing bags, which had already arrived at around 2500 meters above sea level, were in very poor condition (wet, without start numbers). “It would have been irresponsible to send the mountain runners up under these circumstances. They would have arrived completely soaked and at 2500 meters above sea level with temperatures just above freezing they would not have had a change of clothes or would not have been able to find their bags with the change of clothes. If a participant had been seriously injured in a fall, the rescue helicopter would not have been able to rescue him,” said OC boss Gottfried Hofer.

First cancellation in the history of the Three Peaks Run on the anniversary of all days A little later, the athletes were welcomed at Haus Sexten, where they were provided with tea and pasta. “Of course we are very disappointed – also because we had to cancel our Three Peaks Run for the first time on our 20th birthday. This is a punch in the stomach, especially for my helpers, because they have worked really hard on this anniversary edition over the past few weeks and months. I am also incredibly sorry for the athletes from over 20 different nations. We really did everything we could to be able to run the race today in these adverse conditions. But the safety and health of the athletes always comes first,” concluded Hofer.
