Endless Italian champion Hannes Kirchler has struck again

As is often the case, Hannes Kirchler was South Tyrol's great hope for a medal in these title fights. And the experienced Merano resident lived up to his role as favorite. Kirchler clearly won the discus throw with 60.50 m ahead of Giovanni Faloci (59.16) and Nazzareno Di Marco (58.01). The reigning Italian champion achieved his winning distance in the second attempt, first throwing 57,88 m, in the third attempt 58,14, while the last three throws were invalid. Kirchler won his tenth title at the “Assoluti” (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017), the fourth in a row. He has also won the Winter Italian Championship three times (2007, 2014 and 2017).

Antonio Infantino from Athletic Club 96 Bozen also made people sit up and take notice in Trieste. The athlete, who trains in London, came second in the 200 m. He only had to admit defeat to Eseosa Desalu (20.51) in a strong 20.32 seconds (with a tailwind). The 4x400m relay team from Bolzano took a good 5th place. Bruno Telchini's Bolzano club finished in fourth place in the Italian Cup team rankings, behind Fiamme Gialle, Aeronautica and Fiamme Oro. The winner of this ranking qualifies for the Champions League and since the military sports groups will probably forego participation for budget reasons, the Athletic Club could be affected.

Cavalleri 4th and Agreiter 5th over 400 m hurdles

Today, in the final women's 400 m hurdles, the two South Tyroleans Valentina Cavalleri and Caren Agreiter once again performed powerfully. The 21-year-old from San Candido, who runs for the army sports group, narrowly missed a place on the podium and came fourth in 58.33 seconds. Right behind Cavalleri was her former teammate from SSV Bruneck, Caren Agreiter. The 20-year-old also improved her personal best by one hundredth and came in 58.69th place in 5 seconds. The title went to favorite Yadisleidy Pedroso in 55.09 seconds, clearly ahead of Marzia Caravelli (56.65) and Ilaria Vitale (57.09).

Endless Italian champion Hannes Kirchler has struck again

Hannes Kirchler has done it again: The 38-year-old from Meran won gold in the discus throw with 60.50 m at the national championships in Trieste and was crowned Italian champion for the 13th time. There was also silver for 200 m sprinter Antonio Infantino from the Bolzano club Athletic Club 96.
