Europe's athletics talents compete in Brixen

This year the starting field includes 20 teams, the majority of them from different regions of Italy, but also some from surrounding countries, such as the teams from Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Ticino and Slovenia. In total, more than 550 young athletes, coaches and officials will move into their quarters in the Isarco Valley during the competition day. As a reminder: the general class Italian Athletics Championships will also take place in Brixen at the end of July.

The South Tyrolean hopefuls Among the numerous participants there are also some South Tyrolean athletics talents who have a chance of reaching the podium. Last year, pole vaulter Nathalie Kofler from Lana won gold, Merano walker Sara Buglisi came second. Both are no longer there this year. Katja Pattis is fighting for a top position on Sunday. The Tierserin, who celebrated her 17th birthday yesterday and will compete in the 2000m steeplechase in Brixen at the weekend, ran this distance a few days ago at the U18 regional championship in Bolzano in a strong 7:06.43 minutes. Although she missed her personal South Tyrolean U18 best by 85 hundredths, with this time she set the new Italian U7 best time of the year ahead of Lisa Kerschbaumer (08.49:18). The Traminer from SC Meran is also one of the favorites at the weekend. Shot putter Beltina Kallaba wants to draw attention to herself in Brixen.

The Merano walker Valeria Buglisi could also cause a surprise over 5000 m, as could the Bolzano shot putter Beltina Kallaba. From a South Tyrolean perspective, no one is fighting for a medal among boys. 400 m hurdler Lorenzo Bocchio has the best chance of a good placing. On Sunday, May 26th, the international comparison match of the youth regional selections “Brixia Meeting” will be held in Brixen for the 37th time. This event is one of the most important U18 events in Central Europe.
