Favorite victories at the Kalterer See half marathon

Ousman Jaiteh's victory was a triumph with announcement. The 28-year-old from Gambia, who fled his homeland in 2013 and arrived in Sicily after a two-year odyssey, was the top favorite to win the day at the Kalterer See half marathon. The Trentino Running Team athlete completed the 21,097 kilometers in 1:09.02 hours. For Ousman Jaiteh, who now lives in Valsugana and earns his living as a metal worker, the South Tyrolean spring classic was the perfect preparation for the Milan Marathon in a week.

“In Milan next Sunday I want to run the marathon under 2:10 hours. Compliments to the organizers for this really beautiful event,” Jaiteh dictated into the notepads of the numerous media representatives in Kaltern. Another curiosity: Jaiteh, who studied political science in his homeland before fleeing to Europe, only started running two years ago.

Gianmarco Bazzoni from Bolzano from Athletic Club 96 Alperia came in second. “Even though I ran over 30 kilometers today, I feel very comfortable now. In any case, the form before the Hamburg Marathon is right,” said the beaming women’s winner Sarah Giomi. The winner of the panoramic run also comes from the Sarntal for women. Kathrin Hanspeter won with a time of 38.07 minutes. The 36-year-old from ASC LF Sarntal Raiffeisen relegated Doris Weissteiner (SG Eisacktal Raiffeisen/41.16) and Simonetta Menestrina (Atletica Trento/41.51) to the places of honor. The organizers are overwhelmed The organizers from the Sparkasse South Tyrolean running club also had beaming faces. “A new participant record of 1500 athletes, all of whom were completely satisfied. A great running route around the picturesque Lake Kaltern with a wonderful panorama, plus bright spring weather and pleasant temperatures.
