Five South Tyroleans start in Rieti

The “Assoluti” Italian championship will take place in the Guidobaldi Stadium for the third time after 2003 and 2016. A total of 42 titles will be awarded in Lazio this weekend. Interest in an Italian championship has rarely been as great as in the 112th edition in Rieti. During the title fights, the World Cup and European Championship tickets will also be awarded in Eugene and Munich. Last year in Rovereto, the two all-around athletes from SV Lana, Simon Zandarco and Linda Maria Pircher, won silver and bronze in the decathlon and heptathlon. In addition, the shot putter from Athletic Club 96 Bozen, Nicholas Ponzio, was crowned Italian champion. His teammate Antonio Infantino took silver in the 200 m and Linda Palumbo from the Südtirol Team Club won bronze in the 3000 m steeplechase.

This time only five South Tyrolean athletes will be taking part in Rieti. This year too, Pircher wants to have a say in the awarding of the title. The Burgstaller is starting third on the entry list in the heptathlon, while her teammate Zandarco has the sixth best mark in the decathlon. South Tyrolean eyes are also on Katja Pattis. The Tierserin is registered in the 3000 m obstacle with the third best time of 10:22.67 minutes, a podium finish is definitely possible. Just two weeks ago in Florence, the athlete from the South Tyrol Team Club was crowned U23 Italian champion in this discipline.

Teammate and 400 m ace Petra Nardelli, on the other hand, is aiming for her first 52 time in Rieti. The woman from Egg has a season's best time of 53.40 seconds, and it will probably be very difficult for a medal. You can also look forward to the appearance of pole vaulter Nicolò Fusaro. The man from Bolzano recently set a new record of 5.26 m and is seventh on the entry list in Rieti. Nicholas Ponzio is the top favorite in the discus throw.

Other South Tyrolean aces, however, are plagued by injury concerns. The Lanan pole vaulter Nathalie Kofler, the Merano walker Sara Buglisi, the long jumper Anna Menz from Marling, the Bruneck 400 m hurdler Caren Agreiter as well as the two Bolzano Nicola Paletti (all-around) and long jumper Destiny Nkeonye cannot start in Rieti. Five South Tyroleans start in Rieti

The general class Italian Athletics Championships will take place in Rieti from Friday 24th to Sunday 26th June. A total of over 600 athletes are registered.
