Walker Sara Buglisi is crowned U23 Italian champion

Buglisi from Merano, who celebrates her 20th birthday on Thursday, once again showed a strong performance this afternoon in Ancona. The new flagship of the Athletic Club 96 Bozen, which won the U20 Italian championship title in the same discipline last year, has now also been crowned Italian champion in the U23 class. With a time of 13:36.44 minutes, Buglisi prevailed ahead of Vittoria Giordani from Trentino (13:58.05) and Chiara Verteramo (14:08.82) from Turin. For the Merano woman it is the second “Tricolore” over 3 km. Her former teammate at SC Meran, Anna Menz, also caused a stir in Ancona. The 21-year-old from Marlingen, who now competes for Atletica Firenze in the U23 age group, didn't make it onto the podium in the long jump, but she did achieve a new record. Menz took fifth place with 6.00 m, Veronica Zanon from Padua took the win with 6.37 m, ahead of Veronica Crida (6.30) and Milica Travar (6.17). For comparison: Last year Menz came third with 5.92 m, today she improved her record by an impressive eight centimeters, but this time it wasn't enough for the podium. Like last year (back then in the U20), Nathalie Kofler narrowly missed the podium in the U23 pole vault this year. The Lanan woman, who will be celebrating her 13th birthday in 20 days, had to settle for fourth place again in Ancona. Kofler first jumped 3.60 and 3.80 m, then she set her national record of 3.90 m with her first attempt. After that she got stuck at 4.00 m three times. The two runners-up, Giada Pozzato from Verona and Francesca Zafrani, also failed to reach the 4-meter mark three times. While Kofler needed three attempts at 3.80 m, Pozzato and Zafrani only needed one and two, respectively. The new Italian champion is the Roman Giulia Valletti Borgnini, who clearly held her own with 4.10 m. U23 long jumper Destiny Nkeonye (Athletic Club 96) took seventh place with 7.23 m, in the U20 high jump his teammate Anna Di Giovanni from Leifers came 1.63th with 11 m. In the men's category, Bolzano U23 high jumper Alberto Masera finished with 1.94 m tenth. Bolzano U23 pole vaulter Nicolò Fusaro, who won silver last year, also has a chance of winning a medal tomorrow in Ancona.
