Successful finale of the city and village running series

There were nine tour stops this year, one fewer than last year, in the VSS/Raiffeisen city and village running series. The grand finale took place on September 21st with the city run in Glurns. In ideal running weather, sunshine and pleasant temperatures, the more than 300 runners showed strong performances. The focus, especially in the children's and youth categories, was once again on fun and the joy of movement. The reward for this was the applause and cheering from countless spectators in the upper Vinschgau.

The previous winners of the 2019 season were missing from both the men and women at the VSS/Raiffeisen city run in Glurns. Exciting races under the eyes of VSS chairman Günther Andergassen, the Raiffeisen representative Andreas Mair at Tinkhof and Hannes Rungg, as well as the Mayors of Glurns and Schluderns Alois Frank and Peter Trafoier were guaranteed from the outset. In the women's race, Giulia Franchi from SC Fondisti Val di Non set a high pace right from the start, which only Selina Christandl from Lauffreunde Laatsch/Taufers could follow. In the end, the woman from Trentino won with a lead of around 15 seconds over the woman from Upper Vinschger. Gerlinde Baldauf from ASV Schluderns took third place. In the men's race, the race came to a head between Ludovico Palmieri from Schluderns and Geronimo von Vartburg from Switzerland. After four laps, Palmieri was able to cross the finish line with a lead of almost ten seconds. The athlete from ASV Schluderns won in 18:43 minutes, while von Vartburg reached the finish line after 18:53 minutes. Another 30 seconds later, Florian Capello from ASC Laas Raiffeisen reached the finish line in third place.

In the club rankings, the running friends Laatsch/Taufers in Münstertal were able to celebrate their day's victory for the first time this season. However, the Laatscher and Tauferer were no longer able to prevent ASC Laas from winning the final standings after nine races. The Lasa team won five of nine club rankings during the season and were never ranked worse than second place. Including the trial category, more than 1.000 runners from all parts of the country and age groups took part in the popular VSS running series, around 50 of them even took part in all races of the season.

By the way, the VSS also came full circle at the end of the 40th season of the popular city and village running series. The Glurns city run was already on the program in the first season in 1980 and thus played its part in the success of the series. After the end of this season, it was already clear to the runners that they would be at the start of the VSS/Raiffeisen city and village running series again next year.
