Götsch and Tschurtschenthaler win the 17th Stettiner Cup

For the men, with the exception of course record holder Hannes Rungger, almost everyone who was famous in the South Tyrolean mountain running scene took part. Nevertheless, one athlete left his mark on the 17th edition of the Szczecin Cup. Philip Götsch from Dorf Tirol (Bogn da Nia) was not impressed by his competitors. In very good weather conditions (the sky was slightly cloudy, the temperatures were pleasant), the 31-year-old completed the 10,4 kilometer route with 1255 meters of altitude in 1:02.01 hours. He was only five seconds slower than Hannes Rungger in 2007 and achieved the second best time ever run on the original route.

Second place went to Martin Stofner (Martini Speed Team) from Sarner, who was 2.33 minutes slower than Götsch. The 30-year-old crossed the finish line after 1:04.35 hours. Gerd Frick from Bolzano followed in third place, completing the route in 1:05.47 hours. Four more remained with Henry Hofer (Martini Speed Team/1:06.26), Mikhail Mamleev (Sportler Team/1:07.00), Michael Burger (Rennerclub Vinschgau/1:08.32) and Roland Osele (Telmekom Team Südtirol/1:09.49). Mountain runners under the limit of 1:10 hours. Mamleev's performance is particularly impressive, as he successfully took part in the South Tyrol Ultra Skyrace (121 km/7554 meters altitude) last weekend and took second place on the horseshoe tour. Despite a short recovery period, he finished fifth on Sunday.

Tschurtschenthaler is in a league of his own

For the women, Agnes Tschurtschenthaler (ASV Vipiteno) shattered the old course record. The 33-year-old from Sexten crossed the finish line at 1 meters above sea level in her Stettiner Cup premiere in 13.39:2875 hours. Tschurtschenthaler was three and a half minutes faster than Gertraud Höllrigl in her record run in 2010 (1:17.13). Two months ago, Tschurtschenthaler finished fourth in the first of two races for the Italian mountain running championship title (Val Gardena Mountain Run).

Petra Pircher from Laas (Rennerclub Vinschgau), who recorded a time of 1:19.18, came in second, while record winner Edeltraud Thaler from Lana (Telmekom Team Südtirol/five wins) was able to celebrate third place this time. Its running time was 1:20.18 hours. A total of almost 230 runners reached the finish.

“My conclusion this year is also very positive. We had another great running event, with a lot of top runners at the start. All participants were very satisfied and that is the greatest recognition for us. I would like to thank our sponsors, but also all the volunteers and of course the hut manager of the Stettiner Hütte. They all contributed significantly to the success of the Stettiner Cup. See you again in the summer of 2016, when our mountain run comes of age and the Stettiner Cup will take place for the 18th time,” said OC boss Hansjörg Marth from the Moos mountain rescue service as part of the prize distribution.
