Hannes Kirchler wins in Palmanova

Like last year, Hannes Kirchler took victory in Palmanova. The 38-year-old from the Carabinieri sports group won the discus throw with 59.72 m, ahead of the Croatian Roland Varga (58.82 m) and the Slovenian Tadej Hribar (54.99). Kirchler achieved this distance on his fourth attempt. Previously he managed 57,18 m and 57,19 m, while three throws were invalid. He also improved his season record by 18 centimeters. At the Winter Throwing European Cup in Las Palmas almost two months ago he reached 59,54 meters.

Patrick Baù, Thomas Iellici and Sarah Fiwickeler win in Rovereto Patrick Baù, Thomas Iellici, Sarah Fiwickeler and the U16 women's relay team from the South Tyrol Team Club, however, won the “49th. Quercia d'Oro” in Rovereto won four daily victories. The 16-year-old Baù from SG Eisacktal prevailed in the U18 age category in the 400 m run in a good 49.87 seconds, ahead of the two Trentians Milo Madella (52.42) and Emiliano Varesco (53.35). Over the 400 m hurdles, Thomas Iellici from Bolzano was in a class of his own. The 16-year-old won in 1:01.25 minutes ahead of Leonardo Costa and Gabriele Ferracin. In the women's U16 category, Sarah Fiwickeler celebrated victory in the javelin throw. The athlete from the South Tyrol team managed 38.82 meters, a full 14 meters ahead of Denis Piazzola from Trento. Giulia Riccardi came third with 20.82 m. Fiwickeler also celebrated the day's victory in the U16 women's relay 100+200+300+400m in Rovereto together with her teammates from the South Tyrol Team Club Anas Veronesi Vedovelli, Annika Oberrauch and Katja Pattis.

A successful start to the week for the South Tyrolean discus thrower Hannes Kirchler. The 38-year-old from Meran achieved his new season's best mark of 59.72 meters in Palmanova in the province of Udine.
