Home victories at the city run in Vipiteno

In the women's race, a larger leading group pulled away from the rest of the field from the start. About halfway through the race, Vera Maier (ASV Sterzing), Michaela Patscheider (LF Laatsch/Taufers) and Doris Weissteiner (SG Eisacktal) picked up the pace. After 3.000 meters, Maier had the greatest reserves. The Vipiteno woman was able to distance her competitors in the last few meters and won with a time of 10:35 minutes ahead of Patscheider (10:40 minutes) and Weissteiner (10:44 minutes).

For the men, the big favorite was already clear before the start. Markus Ploner from ASV Vipiteno demonstrated his special class right from the start and pulled away. The Mittewalder then completed the 5.200 meters in an impressive manner before reaching the finish in a very strong time of 15:39 minutes. How outstanding the performance of the former member of the Italian national athletics team was is shown by the fact that he had to wait around 45 seconds for second-place finisher Martin Griesser (ASV Freienfeld/16:24 minutes) at the finish. Third place went to Ludovico Palmieri from ASV Schluderns, who was able to beat the onrushing Martin Mayrhofer in the finish sprint.

The runners from ASC Laas once again secured the club ranking ahead of the athletes from SG Eisacktal and the Lauffreunde Sarntal team.

The next tour stop of the VSS/Raiffeisen city and village running series will take place on September 1st in Sarnonico (TN).

Vera Maier and Markus Ploner are the big winners of the VSS/Raiffeisen city run in Vipiteno. In optimal running conditions, more than 300 runners started on Saturday evening.
