Top-class starting field for the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run

The Pole Andrzej Dlugosz is eager to repeat his victory last year. Last year he won on the 17,5 kilometer long route with 1350 meters of altitude from Sexten to the Drei Zinnen Hut in 1:31.01 hours ahead of Trentino's Cesare Maestri and Sarner's youngster Hannes Perkmann. The fact that the 38-year-old from Rytro is in excellent physical condition again this year was demonstrated on Sunday in Ratschings during the 6,3-kilometer mountain run with an altitude of 660 meters to the Wasserfallalm. Dlugosz prevailed ahead of Roberto De Simone and Christian Moser.

Dlugosz faces strong competition from someone from Trentino. The young Alberto Vender (born 1996) from the Atletica Valchiese club has taken part in several mountain runs in the past few weeks and has consistently achieved victories. The 20-year-old took seventh place at the Val Gardena Mountain Run in July, while he won bronze at the Italian Mountain Running Championships in early June. But maybe this year there will be a smiling third party who will snatch the victory away from Dlugosz and Vender.

Kreuzer, Mair or Bottarelli?

The top field among women is even more crowded in terms of performance level. Starting with the winner from 2014, namely Victoria Kreuzer from Fiesch in Switzerland. The ski touring specialist, who won bronze in the vertical race at the World Championships in Verbier last year, will team up with the Austrian Susanne Mair (fifth in the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run in 2013, winner of the Ötzi Alpine Marathon in 2014), and the Italian Sara Bottarelli deliver a thrilling race.

Bottarelli took second place in 2013 and came third the following year - all that's missing from Sara Bottarelli's collection is actually victory. But local hero Elena Casaro from Toblach has also proven time and again at the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run that she is a force to be reckoned with. Like in September 2015, when she came third behind Antonella Confortola and Agnes Tschurtschenthaler.

“I am pleased that we have numerous top athletes at the start again this year. I'm excited to see who we can award this time in front of the magnificent backdrop of the Three Peaks. But of course it also makes me very happy that our mountain run is so well received, especially by the many recreational athletes, and that we were sold out weeks before the race this year,” says OK boss Gottfried Hofer from the organizing ALV Sextner Dolomiten a few days before the starting signal to the South Tyrol Drei Zinnen Alpine Run on Saturday, September 17th at 10 a.m. at the starting area at Haus Sexten.
