Holzdeppe without a win - Dutkiewicz and Roleder behind US competition

Dusseldorf (SID) Former pole vault world champion Raphael Holzdeppe (Zweibrücken) missed out on victory at the indoor meeting in Düsseldorf. The 28-year-old came in tenth at the second stop of the World Indoor Tour with a jump of 5,60 m. Vice world champion Piotr Lisek (Poland) secured victory in the top-class competition with 5,86 m ahead of outdoor world champion Sam Kendricks (USA) and former indoor world champion Konstadinos Filippidis (Greece/both 5,78). Last weekend in Karlsruhe, Holzdeppe set a world record of 5,88 m and delivered his best jump since 2015. Among the hurdlers, European outdoor champion Cindy Roleder (Halle) and World Cup third-place finisher Pamela Dutkiewicz (Wattenscheid) had to admit defeat to their US competitors. Christina Manning won with a world best of 7,77 seconds ahead of her compatriot Sharika Nelvis (7,80). Behind him, Dutkiewicz took third place in the European best of 7,83 seconds, ahead of Roleder (7,85). European champion Ivana Spanovic (Serbia) won the long jump with a world best of 6,77 m. Sosthene Moguenara (Wattenscheid) came second with 6,68. Olympic fourth-place finisher Malaika Mihambo (LG Kurpfalz), victorious in Karlsruhe with 6,72, took seventh place with 6,44. In the 1500 m, Diana Sujew (Frankfurt) stayed below the required standard for the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham (March 4st to 08,33th) in 1:4 minutes. Hurdle sprinter Erik Balnuweit also achieved this, crossing the finish line in 7,66 seconds. The Czech shot putter Tomas Stanek and the Chinese sprinter Su Bingtian provided the sporting highlights. Stanek won with 22,17 m, Werner Günthör (Switzerland) and Ulf Timmermann were only two Europeans who ever pushed further indoors. Su set an Asian record in the 60 m in 6,43 seconds and improved his own record, which was just three days old, by four hundredths of a second. Former shot put world champion David Storl (Leipzig) canceled his start due to injury, as did sprint hopeful Gina Lückekemper (Leverkusen).
