Hubert Indra is Masters world champion in the decathlon

A total of 8.197 athletes are currently taking part in the 23rd Masters World Championships in Spain, which started on Tuesday and continues until September 16th. Italy reported a total of 336 participants, with seven South Tyroleans taking part: Hubert Indra, Ingeborg Zorzi, Konrad Geiser, Manfred Menz, Pierluigi Putzu, Hubert Göller and Waltraud Egger.

Once again Hubert Indra was in the spotlight. The Lanan M60 athlete won the decathlon with a strong 8.158 points. Indra, who set the M8.203 world record with 60 points just three months ago in Arezzo, missed his record by just 45 points. The runner-up world championship title went to Briton Brian Slaughter (800), over 7.314 points behind. Hungarian Gabor Bodnar secured bronze with 6.898 points. Indra was particularly impressive in the high jump, where he also broke the M1.67 Italian record with 60 m.

Indra is aiming for three more world titles. Tomorrow he has the chance to win his second gold medal in the high jump. Three days later, on September 12th, the Lanan native will compete in the pole vault. The 100 m hurdles is on the program next Friday.

Bronze for Ingeborg Zorzi in the heptathlon

Ingeborg Zorzi from Meran also climbed onto the podium in the W70 heptathlon. The former volleyball player took third place with 4.722 points. After an unsuccessful start (25.13 seconds over 80m hurdles), the athlete from SC Meran fought her way back up and in the end she took bronze. The victory went to Riet Jonkers-Slegers from the Netherlands, who was able to hold her own with 5.659 points, clearly ahead of Margaritha Dahler-Stettler (4.996) from Switzerland. Zorzi will start in the high jump on Monday before finishing her World Championships with the 14 m hurdles on September 80th.

Five more South Tyroleans in Spain

Five more South Tyroleans will be in action in Malaga from tomorrow. On Sunday, Pierluigi Putzu from Bolzano will be challenged in the M40 long jump, as will Konrad Geiser in the M70 800 m run. The Merano native will also compete in the 15 m competition on September 1500th. On Monday Waltraud Egger will also make her debut in the 800 m run (F60). She also competes in the 1.500 m (September 15th) and 5.000 m (September 12th). M35 pole vault ace Manfred Menz from Merano will be in action on Tuesday. M40 javelin thrower Hubert Göller will also start next week.

Hubert Indra is Masters world champion in the decathlon

Hubert Indra was crowned Masters World Champion at the title fights in Malaga on Friday evening. The 61-year-old from Lanan secured gold in the M60 decathlon on the southern Spanish coast. Ingeborg Zorzi from Merano, however, took bronze in the W70 heptathlon.
