IAAF Multistars: Rosenberg and Kunz lead in Lana

Multistars is a two-day invitation meeting for the strongest heptathletes and decathletes in the world. The first edition of this meeting took place in 1988, 31 years ago. Since 1998, Multistars has been officially classified as an IAAF meeting. Up to and including 2012 it took place in the province of Brescia, mostly in Desenzano del Garda, but also in Brescia and Saló. From 2013 to 2018 the meeting was held in Florence, and this year it came to South Tyrol for the first time, to the Lana athletics stadium.

From a South Tyrolean perspective, there was bad news even before the start. Alex Verginer from St. Martin in Thurn from Val Badia had to cancel at short notice due to an injury. So the local hopes lay with Simon Zandarco from Gargazon. The athlete from SV Lana, who is studying in Munich, was eliminated after just two disciplines due to injury. Zandarco scored 100 and 11.50 points in the 6.66 m (753 seconds) and long jump (734 m), respectively.

In the women's heptathlon, Annie Kunz is ahead after four disciplines. The American scored 3.595 points, particularly in the 100 m hurdles (13.65) with 1028 points. Her compatriot Riley Cooks, the big surprise from the first day of the competition in Lana, is only eight points behind Kunz. Another American and hot title candidate, Allison Reaser-Halverson, is in third place with 3.472 points. Fourth is the Dutchwoman Marljke Esseling (3.466), fifth is the strong Brazilian Vanessa Chefer-Spinola (3.454). The four Italians Sofia Montagna (2.959), Marta Giovannini (2.905), Sara Chiaratti (2.842) and Lucia Quaglieri (2.775) are in 21st, 22nd, 24th and 25th position.

For the men, Kristian Rosenberg is at the top at halftime. The surprise man from Estonia leads with a strong 4.230 points, followed by the Czech Jan Dolezal (4.141) and Jean Baptiste Nutte (4.081) from Belgium in second and third place. Last year's winner Martin Roe from Norway is fourth after five disciplines with 2 points, tied with the German Mathias Brugger. The top Czech athlete Adam Sebastian Heclet follows closely behind in 3th place with 4.073 points. The best Italian is Simone Cairoli, who is in eighth place with a good 6 points. Tomorrow the men's 4.070 m hurdles, the discus, pole and javelin throw as well as the 3.974 m are on the program. The women's events include the long jump, javelin throw and the 110 m. It starts in Lana at 1500 a.m.

IAAF Multistars: Rosenberg and Kunz lead in Lana

Day 1 of the international all-around meeting Multistars, which will be held in Lana this weekend, is history. At halftime, the Estonian Kristian Rosenberg is in the lead in the men's decathlon, while the American Annie Kunz is in the lead in the women's heptathlon.
