In Kaltern everything is ready for the “athlete” running classic

In 2006, in addition to the Top7 running series, the Kalterersee half marathon was also launched, which attracts numerous top runners from a wide variety of locations year after year. The marathon is also the second stage of the newly founded racing series of the regional athletics association “South Tyrol Running Trophy 2017”.

The attractive event already had almost 500 participants in its founding year. In the following years, the number of runners continued to increase, so a new record is expected this year. The South Tyrolean Running Club had already received over 1000 registrations on Tuesday.

The entire route measures 21,097 kilometers. For the half marathon distance, two complete laps around Lake Kaltern have to be completed. The start and finish are next to the Gretl am See restaurant. The handbikers and participants in the panorama and fun run only have to complete one lap around the lake.

The defending champions are the speedster Günther Mair and Petra Pircher from Laas. Mair prevailed in the “Pusterer Derby” in 1:11.37 hours ahead of Hermann Achmüller (+1.09 minutes) and Georg Brunner (+1.25 minutes), both of whom are eligible to run for the Pustertal Running Club. Petra Pircher, on the other hand, won the Kaltererseelauf for the second time after her victory in 2009. The course record still belongs to Abdelhadi El Hachimi. Ten years ago, the Belgian with Moroccan roots crossed the finish line in 1:05.34 hours.

The top 7 series continues this weekend in Überetsch. After the start at the BOclassic, South Tyrol's most important running series goes into the next round on Sunday with the 12th Kalterersee half marathon.
