International meeting in Lana: “High-class starting field”

Up to and including 2012 it took place in the province of Brescia, mostly in Desenzano del Garda, but also in Brescia and Salò. From 2013 to 2018 the meeting was held in Florence, and in 2019 it came to South Tyrol for the first time, to the Lana athletics stadium. In a few days Lana will be the venue for this major event again.

It is thanks to the Lana sports club, athletics section that Multistars moved from Florence to Lana in 2019. Lana had been negotiating with organizer Gianni Lombardi since autumn 2018. His club 10+7 is responsible for the commitment of the athletes and for the travel costs to the respective airports in Italy, while the Lana sports club is responsible for the transport of the athletes and their supervisors to Lana and back, as well as for the accommodation costs from there to to departure. SV Lana also provides the athletics facility, the competition office and judges' jury as well as the sports medical care for the participants. The event was a huge success two years ago, but last year it had to be canceled due to corona. Linda Maria Pircher is the local hero Multistars is a two-day invitation meeting for the strongest heptathletes and decathletes in the world. 18 women and 18 men from 21 different countries take part in the event. A South Tyrolean will also be at the start for the women, 19-year-old Burgstaller Linda Maria Pircher from SV Lana. An athlete from Lana has even won this meeting once: Gertrud Bacher won in 1999 and, 22 years ago, set a new Italian record with 6.185 points, which still stands. Bacher is now Pircher’s trainer. “It is a huge success for us to be able to host another multistars meeting. After the Golden Gala in Rome, the Multistars is the second largest athletics event in Italy. We want to organize an event that everyone will remember fondly. We have a top-class starting field, especially among women. It is optimal preparation for the Summer Olympics in Tokyo for all athletes,” says national coach Karl Schöpf happily. Favorites come from all over the world Among the women, the Swiss Geraldine Ruckstuhl (best performance 6.391 points) is the favorite. Her strongest competitors are the Ukrainian Anastasija Mokhniuk (6.359), Marthe Koala (6.235) from Burkina Faso, the American Chari Hawkins (6.230) and the two Germans Mareike Arndt (6.169) and Anna Maiwald (6.174). A total of 14 of the 18 participants have already broken the 6.000 mark.

In the men's category, there are nine decathletes registered who have already reached the 8.000 point mark: the three Czechs Sebastian Helcelet (8.335), Jan Dolezal (8.142) and Jiri Sykora (8.121), the Norwegian Martin Roe (8.228), the Swede Fredrik Samuelsson (8.172) and Marcus Nilsson (8.120), Romain Martin (8.138) from France, the Spaniard Jorge Urena (8.125) and Niels Pittomvils (8.051) from Belgium. It starts on Saturday at 11.00 a.m. with the men's 100 m sprint. The event takes place behind closed doors

International meeting in Lana: “High-class starting field”

The international all-around meeting Multistars will take place in Lana on April 24th and 25th. The first edition of this meeting took place in 1988, 33 years ago. Since 1998, Multistars has been officially classified as an IAAF meeting.
