Italian Championships in Brixen a success even without the Agreiter medal

Bruneck's 400 m hurdler Caren Agreiter had to settle for fourth place in 59.38 seconds. She was South Tyrol's great hope for a medal. In the end she narrowly missed out on a podium place. Rebecca Sartori's bronze medal (4) was just under a second away.

The victory went to top favorite Ayomide Folorunso, who was crowned Italian champion in 56.40 seconds ahead of Linda Olivieri (56.50). “Unfortunately I made a small mistake on the 4th jump, otherwise I might even have gotten bronze. But I’m still very satisfied and hope that I can improve even further,” explains the 23-year-old Agreiter. Infantino takes gold in the 200m, Geher Dei Tos 3rd. Antonio Infantino from Athletic Club 96 Bozen, on the other hand, was crowned Italian champion over 200 m. The sprinter, who lives in London, won in 20.84 seconds ahead of Davide Manenti (20.92) and Davide Re (21.02). Teammate Leonardo Dei Tos from Vittorio Veneto won bronze in the 10 km walk in exactly 42 minutes. The new Italian champion is Gianluca Picchiottino from Livorno, who was able to hold his own in 41.21 minutes ahead of Giorgio Rubino (41.53). In the women's race, Sara Buglisi from Merano had to withdraw due to injury.

On Saturday evening, the 4x100 m relay team from Athletic Club 96 Bozen sensationally became the Italian relay champions. Bolzano's Alessandro Monte and his teammates Jacques Riparelli, Antonio Infantino and Kevin Giacomelli narrowly beat the La Fratellanza athletes (40.92) in 40.94 seconds. With 400 m ace Brayan Lopez, long jumper Antonino Trio, walker Dei Tos (all three 3rd), the 4x100 m relay and Infantino, Bruno Telchini's club won five medals, which is strong. Lopez and Infantino will also start at the World Cup in Doha.

The pole vaulters Manfred Menz and Nicolò Fusaro, both from Athletic Club 96, also impressed in Brixen. In the final, which had to be postponed until today due to heavy rain yesterday evening, Menz from Meran came seventh with 4.60 m, 19-year-old Fusaro from Bolzano (also 4.60 m) came in 9th.
