Jaiteh is also in a class of its own in Meran

A good month after his triumph at Lake Kaltern, Ousman Jaiteh also won the Meran-Algund Half Marathon. The athlete from Gambia, who lives in Trentino, won on his 29th birthday with a time of 1:08:58 hours and thus gave himself a nice present. Jaiteh, who competes for the Trentino Running Team, relegated the two Bolzano athletes from Athletic Club 96 Alperia, two-time winner Khalid Jbari (1:10.45) and Gianmarco Bazzoni (1:12.48), to their places.

“It was a tough race with a lot of headwind – but I still had a lot of fun on this great track. Competitions like this half marathon serve as ideal preparation for my big goal: In September I want to run 2:13 hours in the Berlin Marathon so that I can represent my country at the Olympic Games,” said Jaiteh at the finish.

Weber plays out her routine For women, the winner of the Half Marathon Meran-Algund is Andrea Weber. The athlete from Reutte in Tyrol prevailed in the spa town with a time of 1:24:14. Nicole Dürst came in second. The Swiss woman from the LG Benken/STS Running Team lost 21,0975 seconds to Weber over the 47 kilometers. Third place went to local hero Andrea Schweigkofler from the Meran Sports Club, who reached the finish in 1:28:07. Premstaller and Christandl win the FitnesRun The athletes also had the choice of the 12,5 kilometer long FitnessRun. Here Georg Premstaller (ASC LF Sarntal Raiffeisen) from Sarn triumphed with a time of 42:58 minutes ahead of Martin Mairhofer (SG Eisacktal Raiffeisen ASV/43:52) and Daniel Medenwald (LAC Aschenleben/45:37). In the women's race, Selina Christandl was happy about the day's victory.

The Merano – Algund Half Marathon proved to be a mammoth task from an organizational point of view. Strong gusts of wind demanded everything from Martin Sanin's OK team. “The 26th edition of our Meran – Lagundo Half Marathon also went off smoothly despite the less than ideal weather. My greatest thanks go to all those people who, through their help and support – be it as helpers, be it as sponsors and partners – made it possible for us to experience this great run in Merano.”

The Top7 series 2019 will continue in two and a half months with the Reschenseelauf on Saturday, July 13th.
