Jbari and Bettin leave everyone behind at the Kalterer See half marathon

In the men's category, Khalid Jbari from Bolzano gave himself a nice present on his 33rd birthday with the triumph, while Loretta Bettin from Trentino was ahead in the women's category. The two athletes had already stood together on the highest podium in the race around the warmest swimming lake in the Alps in 2018. Shortly after the start, a trio prominent in South Tyrolean running circles broke away among the men: Khalid Jbari (Athletic Club 96 Alperia), Michael Hofer (ASV Deutschnofen) and David Andersag (ASC Berg). These three top runners were still close together after the first lap, which they completed in just over 33 minutes. On the second loop, Jbari and Hofer pulled away a little before the eventual winner made the decisive attack at kilometer 20 on a downhill section. In the end, Jbari won the Lake Kaltern Half Marathon with a time of 1:07.20 hours, ten seconds ahead of Hofer. Jbari's performance on his 33rd birthday and on his third Kaltern triumph after 2017 and 2018 can be rated even higher when you consider that he won the Rimini Marathon just a week ago. Jbari's half marathon best time is 1:06.41. Hofer, on the other hand, was only 16 seconds shy of his personal best, which he would like to improve on this season. In the long term, the 26-year-old is aiming for a time of under 1:05 hours. The podium in Kaltern was completed on Sunday by David Andersag, who also broke the 1:08.59 hour mark in 1:10. Natalie Andersag came third as the best South Tyrolean In the women's race, Loretta Bettin (Atletica Paratico) celebrated a classic start-to-finish victory. At halftime, the 41-year-old from Trentino had a lead of two minutes over Natalie Andersag (ASC Berg) and almost three minutes over Anna Fantinelli (Atletica Brescia Marathon). A lead that Bettin further expanded on the second loop, finally completing the 21,1 kilometers in 1:21.10 hours and thus confidently prevailing. Fantinelli was able to overtake Andersag on the second loop and took second place, 4.17 minutes behind. Andersag's gap to the day's winner at the finish was 5.37 minutes. In addition to the half marathon distance, the organizing South Tyrolean running club, Sparkasse, traditionally also offered the panoramic run with a length of 10,55 kilometers on Sunday. Here the day's victory among men went to Marco Anesi from Trentino (Lagarina Crus Team). The 22-year-old from Pinè reached the finish after 34.04 minutes, 15 seconds ahead of Salurn's Raphael Joppi from the host club. Nicola Mostacchetti from Atl. Valle Brembana took third place. His final time was 35.13 minutes. In the women's race, an athlete from Germany was the first to cross the finish line. Anna Ricarda Gerlach from Regensburg won confidently in 40.43 minutes. As the best local athlete, Sophia Miribung from Percha came in second place (Pustertal Running Club/45.04), ahead of Sonja Tscholl from Tschengls (ASD Südtirol Team Club/46.34).
