Jbari and Siegel win on the Seiser Alm

At an altitude of 1.800 meters, surrounded by lush green alpine meadows and the spectacular Dolomite peaks of Sassolungo, Plattkofel and Schlern: This is the stage on which 700 runners ran the 21 kilometers of the Seiser Alm Half Marathon. At the sixth edition of the half marathon over the largest high mountain pasture in Europe, athletes from 27 countries started on a unique route in the middle of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the men's race, Khalid Jbari (ITA) dominated the field, needing 1:21.22,8 for the course. Hot on his heels was Markus Ploner (ITA), who took 30 seconds longer, while Hannes Rungger (ITA) came in third with a time of 1:23.36,5.

In the women's race, Monique Siegel (GER) won with a time of 1:34.17,4, beating the German Franziska Bossow (1:34.56,6) and the Italian Elena Casaro (1:35.52,4).

But running on the Seiser Alm was not just for the competition and the scenic beauty, but also for a good cause. A team of local athletes also ran the route - each one over two kilometers and all together with the aim of collecting donations for the "Südtiroler Sporthilfe", a club that supports the young hopefuls of South Tyrolean sports in developing their skills to express. The donation pot of 4.200 euros was handed over to Hermann Trojer, board member of “Südtiroler Sporthilfe”, at the award ceremony.
