Jbari and Tschurtschenthaler win the “Erdäpfellauf”

The fifth race of the South Tyrolean Top7 running series, which runs from Bruneck to Sand in Taufers, is already a fixed date in the calendars of many athletes and spectators. Well-known top athletes as well as numerous enthusiastic amateur runners took part in the traditional ¾ half marathon, which is also known as the “Erdäpfellauf”. The race owes its name to the 2,5 kilograms of Pusterer potatoes that each athlete receives.

Already at the start it was raining lightly and it was very windy. These factors presented the runners with a special challenge. Nevertheless, the participants fought bravely. So did the winner Khalid Jbari from Bolzano, who stayed just under an hour with 59:43. “I started with a top group. Right from the start we had a fast pace. At kilometer 6 I slowly broke away from the group and ran to the finish alone,” said Jbari. In the end he had a good lead of 59 seconds over second-placed Fabrizio Pradetto, who reached the finish in 1:00:42. Hannes Rungger came in third, crossing the finish line in 1:00:43 after a final sprint.

Agnes Tschurtschenthaler wins among the women

With an excellent time of 1:04:36, Agnes Tschurtschenthaler took first place among the women and secured the ¾ half marathon for the fourth time. Tschurtschenthaler soon broke away from the leading group and joined the fastest men. Her good performance is also evident in the lead of over three minutes over second-placed Kathrin Hanspeter, who was again at the forefront despite her long injury break. She crossed the finish line in 1:07:53. Bronze went to Petra Pircher with 1:08:48.

In the handbikers, Roland Rüpp was able to claim first place with a time of 45:46. Karl Tappeiner came second with a time of 48:57, ahead of third-placed Christoph Depauli (50:52) and fourth-placed Markus Kompatscher (1:05:58).

Next Top7 race: Soltn mountain half marathon on September 24th The Top7 series 2017 still includes two races, namely the Soltn mountain half marathon in Jenesien and the Agefactor Run, which is new in this country, on October 21.10.2017st, 7 in Branzoll.
