Lake Kaltern half marathon is chasing the next record

629 participants in 2010, 769 in 2011. And this year? Over 800 have already registered for the 7th edition. Only the Reschenseelauf can boast similarly high growth rates in South Tyrol.

“We are pleased that our run is so well received and are excited to see how many more people will join us this weekend. We have received numerous inquiries for the fun run that has just been added to the program,” says the President of the South Tyrolean Running Club, Frieda Viertler.

This year, the half marathon (2 laps of the lake, 21,1 km) and the panoramic run (1 lap of the lake, 10,55 km) are joined by the fun run. The fun run is the ideal way to get started. It is carried out parallel to the Panorama Run, but without timekeeping. No sports medical certificate is required to participate.

The start will take place on Sunday, March 25th at 10 a.m. at the parking lot in St. Josef am See. The handbikers start 10 minutes earlier. The start is in a southerly direction. At 10.15:XNUMX a.m. the panoramic and popular runners take to the track.

A lottery offers great prizes, including a travel voucher from Martin's Reisen worth 1500 euros. The extensive supporting program offers entertainment for the whole family.

The Kalterersee half marathon also attracts numerous top runners every year. The Italo-Moroccan Said Boudalia has already triumphed four times at Lake Kaltern. The defending champions are the two top 7 overall winners from last year, Rudi Brunner from Meran and Edeltraud Thaler from Lana. But someone else is the favorite this year. After his successes last year at the Pustertal three-quarter half marathon and the Soltn mountain half marathon, Hannes Rungger from Sarn would like to finally triumph at Lake Kaltern. "I was already second in 2006. Of course it would be nice to be at the top one day. I'll definitely try it," said Rungger.

Sarner's toughest opponents are probably Hermann Achmüller, Mikhail Mamleev, Rudi Brunner and Michael Burger. In the women's category, Edeltraud Thaler is preparing to repeat her victory from last year. However, she has a tough opponent in Mirella Bergamo. The Trentino native has already been on the podium several times in Top7 races. Petra Pircher, the 2009 winner, is also at the start. Renate Rungger could decide to take part at short notice - but in the panorama run.
