Kaltererseelauf celebrates its premiere: Hofer and Kuen cheer

The man from Deutschnofen delivered the fastest time of the day (46.46 minutes) of the 830 participants and thus relegated David Andersag and Peter Lanziner to the two other podium places. On the 14,9 kilometer long route, which started in Tramin, around Lake Kaltern and back to Tramin, Julia Kuen from Reischach was the fastest among the women, winning the day in the second stage of the Top56.02 in 7 minutes. series ahead of Sarah Giomi and Martina Rizzoli.

At the finish on the town hall square in Tramin on the Weinstrasse, Michael Hofer was almost two minutes ahead of his first pursuer. From the start, the ASV Deutschnofen athlete set his own pace and broke away from his competitors in the first few kilometers, so that by the tenth kilometer he had already gained a lead of over a minute. Hofer secured victory in the first edition of the Kaltererseelauf, which followed in the footsteps of the Under Armor Kalterer See Half Marathon and also took its place as the second stage of the Top7 running series.

“The weather forecast wasn't good at the beginning, but in the end the sun shone and it was a perfect day for running. I tried to run at my rhythm from the start and keep the others at a distance. I know them (Andersag and Lanziner, editor's note) well, because we train together and push each other. I tried to pull away and managed it,” said Hofer at the finish. Behind him were David Andersag (ASC Berg) and Peter Lanziner (ASD Südtirol Team Club). The battle for second place was only decided at the finish, as Andersag was only five seconds ahead of Lanziner.

Julia Kuen prevails in the women's field Pusterian Julia Kuen was the fastest among the women. The athlete from Reischach, who runs for the ASD Athletic Club 2000 Toblach, built her victory with consistency. After ten kilometers she was still 20 seconds ahead of her first pursuers, but then she broke away and crossed the finish line after 56.02 minutes.

“It was a fantastic race. In the last few months I have dedicated myself to cross-country skiing, but now I had to get used to it quickly: until yesterday I was still skiing on the snow. The route was beautiful and the temperatures were perfect,” said Kuen after her victory. A little more than a minute after her, Sarah Giomi (CUS Pro Patria Milano), who won the Under Armor Kalterer See Half Marathon in 2019, crossed the finish line. At the finish, the native of Bolzano was 16 seconds ahead of third-placed Martina Rizzoli (US Dolomitica ASD) from Fiemme Valley.

Satisfied faces from the organizers In addition to the premiere of the Kaltererseelauf, the hobby run “Gewürztraminerlauf” with a length of four kilometers also took place on this Sunday dedicated to running. The organizers of the South Tyrolean Running Club looked forward to this event with great satisfaction. “We are even more than satisfied, as we have never had so many participants in the Lake Kaltern half marathon. The route was very well received, everyone was highly motivated and the weather was great too,” commented President Patrick Olivetto after the race.

After the Kaltererseelauf, the Top7 running series is now moving to Trentino. The Teroldego event is on the program in Mezzocorona on May 13th, which represents the third stage of the popular running series.
