Katja Pattis U18 cross Italian champion

The 16-year-old animal sergeant from the South Tyrol Team Club once again set an exclamation mark this afternoon near Turin. Pattis, who started the race as one of the favorites, ran the four kilometers in the U18 category in a strong 14.43 minutes and ended up nine and 12 seconds ahead of Ilaria Bruno and Francesca Dalla Pozza. “It was a very strenuous race on a great track. “I won the race today in the last 500 meters, I’m over the moon,” said the animal sergeant. For Pattis it was already the third Italian championship title, after she was on the top of the podium in the 2017 m steeplechase in Cles in 1200 and at the U18 Italian mountain running championships last year.

Martina Falchetti from SC Meran from Val Gardena came sixth, while her teammates Lisa Kerschbaumer and Veronika Hölzl took 20th and 32nd place respectively. The three cross-country runners from Meran secured the team U41 Italian championship title with 18 points ahead of Bracco Atletica (61) and Atletica Lecco (80).

Otherwise there was nothing to celebrate for the South Tyrolean athletes. The best men's runner was Paolo Rossi from AS Merano, who finished 18st in the U21 competition. The new Italian champions in the general class are Yeman Crippa from Trento and Francesca Tommasi. For Crippa it was the second success in the national cross championships and for Tommasi the first ever.

Katja Pattis U18 cross Italian champion

Over 2.500 athletes determined the Italian cross-country champions at the weekend in and around the “Parco della Mandria” in Venaria Reale in Piedmont. Katja Pattis was crowned U18 Italian champion.
